The Village of Indian Hill was awarded $1,410,000 in Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) funding from the Ohio EPA to restore a portion of Sycamore Creek as well as perform reforestation, invasives removal, and habitat enhancement in the vicinity. The project limits are on Village-owned property along Loveland Madeira Road from approximately Spooky Hollow Road to Sleepy Hollow Road. Beaver Creek Hydrology, the environmental engineering consultant, is finalizing the design drawings. Beaver Creek is in the process of obtaining all necessary permits for the work with both the Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Stream Restoration Specialists performed the required tree clearing work in late March 2024. This was done in effort to keep the project on schedule as there are permit restrictions on tree clearing April 1 – September 30 due to potential impacts with endangered species (i.e. Indiana bat). The clearing is necessary to facilitate re-establishment of the approximately 40-foot-wide stream channel and surrounding floodplain bench and addition of proposed wetland areas. Nearly all of the removed trees will be utilized in the project for toe-wood and log structures. Once all permits have been approved this spring, the design plans will be finalized, and the remaining construction activities will follow. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2024. The concept plan for the site (subject to change during the design and permitting process), is viewable here.
