Recreation Commission

The Village of Indian Hill, Recreation Commission

Population Served: Residents of the Village of Indian Hill and Indian Hill School District, as well as students who attend Cincinnati Country Day.

Purpose of IHRC: The purpose of the Indian Hill Recreation Commission is to provide recreational opportunities and athletic programs for residents of the Village of Indian Hill and the students of the Indian Hill School District and Cincinnati Country Day School.

The goals of all IHRC Recreational and Athletic programs are as follows: 

  • To encourage community spirit and friendship,
  • To allow all participants an opportunity to participate,
  • To instruct participants in the development of their capabilities,
  • To build good character and encourage teamwork,
  • To develop and practice good sportsmanship,
  • To implement the principles of fair play,
  • To improve physical fitness,
  • And most importantly, to have fun!

NEW Online Recreation System

We are now using REC1 for our registration and online management platform. REC 1 incorporates league management, volunteer management, activity management, and facility management into one efficient and easy to use platform that is both desktop and mobile device friendly. This new system is now our primary registration platform. To ensure that we have your families most up to date information, we did not transfer over households to Rec 1. Facilities

All Facilities, when not otherwise reserved, may be used by persons in the community for unstructured recreational play on a first-come, first-served basis. All organized groups/teams conducting training, practices or games, must be approved for use following the guidelines set forth in the Facility Use Policy. All inquiries and reservation requests should be directed to the Recreation Program Manager.

Rec Baseball Age Divisions

Grade K and Grade 1 (open to Boys and Girls)

  • Teams will practice 1-2 times per week.
  • Teams will play a total of 7-10 games per season. Games will be played on Saturdays against other Indian Hill Teams.
  • Practices and games will be located at Drake Park.

Knothole Baseball (Grades 2 and Up) - Boys Only

  • Teams will practice up to two times per week.
  • Teams will play at least one game per week with a total of 15-20 games per season, depending on age.
  • Practice and game locations are TBD
IH Braves Baseball Academy

The Indian Hill Braves Baseball Academy (IHBBA) has been formed based on feedback from IH families that desire a higher level of baseball competition and development while maintaining an IH community-based program.

Rec Basketball Age Divisions

Rec Basketball is available to Boys and Girls in Grades 2-12

Grade 2

  • All 2nd Graders will play at 8ft baskets against other schools/districts within the Cincinnati Premier Youth Basketball League (CPYBL).  It is a 10-game season, instructional focused league where score is not kept and has an independent referee. 

Grades 3-12

  • All 3rd - 12th Graders will ply at 10ft baskets against other schools/districts within the Cincinnati Premier Youth Basketball League (CPYBL). All Recreational teams participate in a 10-game season with a season ending tournament. 

For grades that are eligible to play on a school team. You may try out for your respective school team. If you sign up for rec basketball and make the school team, Indian Hill Recreation will refund your registration fee. 

Athletic League

For Grades 4-6, there is an option to tryout for the athletic league within the Recreational CPYBL. There will be two dates for try-outs and it is highly recommended that your child attend both days to help the with selections. Our goal is to notify parents of athletic team selections within 48 hours of the last tryout date. All parents will be notified via email regardless of the result of their child. Please note, if your child does not make the Athletic Level team, they will automatically be included on a recreational level team. There is an additional fee if your child is placed on an athletic league team after a successful tryout. Athletic League teams participate in a 20-game season. with a season ending tournament.

Reminder: tryouts are not mandatory for this grade; it is just an option. All players who don't wish to participate in the tryout will be included on a Recreational Level team.

Rec Field Hockey Age Divisions

Field Hockey is open to Girls in grades 6-8. These grades will probably play as one group, though numbers may allow us to field multiple teams. 

Required Equipment

Rec Lacrosse Age Divisions

Recreaitonal Lacrosse is offered to girls and boys of all skill level in Grades K-6

Instructional Level Lacrosse

  • Grade K
    • Clinics are usually held on Saturdays or Sundays at Camp Dennison park.
    • Clinics will provide an opportunity to learn lacrosse in a very fun and light environment. We will NOT play any official games during clinics and our goal is to give all players equal training and attention.
  • Grades 1/2
    • Practices are 2 times per week at Camp Dennison Park.
    • Participants play a schedule of 8=/1 games against similarly experienced teams.

Youth Level Lacrosse Teams

  • Grades 3/4 & 5/6
    • Practices are 2 times per week at Camp Dennison Park.
      • Boys primarily practice on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
      • Girls primarily practice on Mondays & Wednesdays. 
    • Games for boys teams will primarily be on Sundays. 
    • Games for girls teams will primarily be on Saturdays. 
Drills & Skills

The information below will provide you with specfic Drills and Skills that can be practiced at home to help your child further their lacrosse abilities. Please stay tuned as we add Drills & Skills information here. 

Required Equipment

All athletes will need to provide their own equipment listed below:

    • Cup (is needed for Grades 3-6)

    • The only equipment that is needed is a stick and goggles. Both of these are provided for the girls teams, providing your own is optional.

Soccer Trainer Host Families Needed

The Soccer program is busy planning for the Fall season. We are in need of volunteer trainer host families from 8/21-10/23 for 9 weeks (partial season host families are fine). Hosts are asked to provide a private room, access to a bathroom and laundry, and share in family meals. We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from our past host families. IH Rec Soccer fees will be waived for host families! If you are interested in being a host family, please send us an email at [email protected]

Passers, Wings and Strikers participate in the CHSS league against other area teams. Kickers, Minors and Seniors participate in the SAY North league against other area teams in their division.

Referees

All of our referee's must register and be trained through the CHSS Soccer League. The Indian Hill Recreation Commission will then receive a list of eligible referee's to be scheduled for games. CHSS has informed us that Registration is now open, all referee's must register through CHSS. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER WITH CHSS 

CHSS Fall 2023 Referees will need to complete the online course and test unless they received a grade of 70% or higher in the Spring. All Referees will also need to complete (1) in-person on-field class. Referees will also need to register on this website. Adult and youth referee registrations are below. All referees will need to upload their current concussion certificate during registration and choose an in-person class. See the concussion certification under the Risk Management tab on the website for approved concussion courses. Per CHSS, they honor concussion certificates for three years.

Rec Softball Age Divisions

8U/10U/12U/14U

  • Rec Softball is Fast Pitch Softball for Girls in Grades 2-8. The girls will learn all aspects of the game and play in a local league including commmunities of Mariemont and Madeira.

Prior to 2nd Grade, girls can play in the coed T-Ball/Coach Pitch teams through our Rec Baseball program.

Track & Field Age Divisions

IH Rec Track & Field is open to Boys and Girls in Grades K-6.

Grades K-2

  • K,1st & 2nd grade boys and girls at 8:30 and 11:00 (Longest running event 200m, Field events are the Long Jump and Softball Throw)

Grades 3-4

  • 3rd & 4th grade boys and girls at 11:30 and 1:30 (Longest running event 400m, Field events are Long Jump, Softball throw, High Jump, and Shot Put)

Grades 5-6

  • 5th & 6th grade boys and girls at 2:00 to 5:00 (Longest individual running event 800m, and 1600m relay. Field events are Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Discus). 

Grade K thru 4 run in heats (based on gender and grade) and each runner receives a ribbon for his/her place in the heat. For grades 5 & 6, the top 6 finishers in each event receive an award. Each runner is entered in 3 events, usually two running events and one field event. Generally at the meets, boys do field events first, then running events. Girls do running events, then field events.
