What should my water hardness be?

Indian Hill Water is naturally hard, but is softened at the treatment plant to between 8.77 and 9.94 grains per gallon (gpg), this is equal to 150 -170 parts per million (ppm). The water hardness leaving the facility is increased slightly in the summer as a large volume of water is used for irrigation purposes.
