PFAS Removal Facility

On April 10, 2024 the USEPA released regulations for new limits of several PFAS compounds in drinking water, with compliance required by 2029.  PFOS has been detected in the drinking water supplied by Indian Hill Water Works at a level around 14 parts per trillion (ppt), which is above the upcoming USEPA limit of 4 ppt for that particular compound.  One (1) ppt would be represented by a single drop of water in 20 Olympic swimming pools.  In 2024 the Village contracted with TetraTech to further the planning phase.  A General Plan (including rapid small scale column testing results of potential treatment media, and a study of alternatives with a cost comparison for regionalization) is anticipated to be submitted to OEPA for review in Fall 2025.  The Village successfully applied for a $405,550 loan from OEPA’s Drinking Water Assistance Fund with an award of full principal forgiveness on the loan for the expense of planning phase work.  Engineering design of a PFAS removal facility is anticipated to occur in 2026, with construction of the new facility expected to be performed over the course of 2027 through 2028.
