Annual Street Resurfacing Program

John R. Jurgensen Co. was awarded a contract in the amount of $1,507,206.30.  The project began in April with roadway base repairs, saw cutting and removing curbs, followed by milling, adjustment of utility castings (i.e. valve box lids and manhole covers), paving and pavement marking application.  The streets  included in this year’s resurfacing program include: Blome Rd. (Kugler Mill Rd. to Camargo Rd. as well as Spooky Hollow Rd. to the bridge), Camargo Rd. (the western Corp. line to Loveland-Madeira Rd.), Cooper Rd. (from the Corp. line to Main Street, Montgomery), Deer Crossing (Ravenswalk Ln. to the terminus), Given Rd. (Shawnee Run Rd. to Spooky Hollow Rd.), Manor Hill Ln. (Blome Rd. to the terminus), and Spooky Hollow Rd. (the western Corp. line to Blome Rd. as well as Loveland-Madeira Rd. to Given Rd.).  The project was completed in June 2024, with the exception of Spooky Hollow Rd. (currently on hold for the construction of a sanitary force main installed by others).  The road paving list is subject to change.  Lane closures will be necessary at times and will have two-way traffic maintained by flaggers.  Expect long delays.

Camargo Culvert Replacement Project

The project is located approximately 150’ east of the Kugler Mill Rd. intersection on Camargo Rd.  The scope of work includes replacement of approximately 85’ of deteriorated pipe and two headwalls, installation of a manhole and  a new catch basin, as well as installation of step pools in a steep section of the roadside ditch leading to the upstream end of the culvert.  The project was designed by Choice One Engineering, advertised and bid in May 2024.  JTM Smith Construction, Inc. was awarded a contract in the amount of $152,476.  Construction is anticipated to start in July and be complete by October 31, 2024.  The road is expected to be closed to traffic between July 8 – August 12, 2024, with two-way traffic maintained by flaggers beginning August 13, 2024.

Drake Road Landslide Repair

On January 16, 2024 Indian Hill Water Works (IHWW) personnel responded to a water main break on Drake Road between Tangle Ridge Lane and Arapaho Lane.  The water main break saturated the soil in the hillside, resulting in the loss of a utility pole and the embankment.  The water main was repaired by IHWW.  In an effort to protect the remaining road and utilities in the area, JTM Smith was hired to address an emergency repair of the affected area for $99,600.  Their work included installation of a retaining wall and restoration of the embankment, guardrail, and pavement along the length of the slide.  The project was completed in late February, 2024.

Given Road Evaluation Maintenance

JTM Smith Construction anticipates beginning the pier wall project in mid-August, weather dependent.  The $49,200 project includes installation of piers in gaps along the existing pier wall (at locations of dead trees) southeast of Redbird Hollow Ln.  Dates of temporary road closures will be posted when scheduled.

Kugler Mill Culvert Rehabilitation Project

The project is located approximately 0.60 miles west of the Camp Rd. intersection on Kugler Mill Rd.  Work will be broken into two phases.  The first phase will include site improvements that consist of: inlet end headwall and wingwall modifications, grading, rip-rap installation, guardrail, and minor pavement repair. The scope of work in phase two includes the interior rehabilitation of a 103 ft. long, 7’-9” x 7’-0” cast-in-place reinforced concrete box culvert.  The culvert projects on Kugler Mill were designed by Choice One Engineering.  The project bid openings are scheduled for July 18, 2024.  The road is expected to be closed for 90 days during the construction of Phase 1 work.  Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained, with long delays possible, during the construction of Phase 2 work.  Road closure dates will be posted when scheduled.  Construction completion is anticipated in early 2025.

Miami Road Water Main Replacement

Evans CivilPro designed the construction plans.  The project is located along Miami Road between Indian Hill Rd. to Rock Hill Ln.  Due to maintenance of traffic concerns with other projects in the area, the public advertisement and construction will be postponed to spring 2025.

Public Works Facility Improvements

A bid opening was held to replace the fence surrounding the Public Works complex on March 21, 2024.  Burcor Fencing was awarded the project contract.  The contract cost is $155,787, which is less than the Village’s budget of $180,000.  The fence installation was completed in May 2024.  Half of the rear garage addition on the premises will also be re-roofed beginning this summer.  Wm. Kramer & Son, Inc. was awarded the roofing project contract for a base bid of $373,990, which is less than the Village’s budget of $400,000.

Stephan Field Improvements

The $235,871 playground replacement was completed in 2023.  Indian Hill Public Works staff removed the existing retaining wall and a contractor reinstalled the wall for $25,000, at a location further away from the existing tennis courts.  J.K. Meurer Corp. repaved the asphalt walking path near the tennis courts and picnic shelter.  Roof repairs on the existing picnic shelter will be completed this summer by At Your Service Roofing.  New pickleball courts will be added this fall.

Sycamore Creek Restoration & Habitat Enhancement

The Village of Indian Hill was awarded $1,410,000 in Water Resource Restoration Sponsor Program (WRRSP) funding from the Ohio EPA to restore a portion of Sycamore Creek as well as perform reforestation, invasives removal, and habitat enhancement in the vicinity. The project limits are on Village-owned property along Loveland Madeira Road from approximately Spooky Hollow Road to Sleepy Hollow Road. Beaver Creek Hydrology, the environmental engineering consultant, has obtained all necessary permits and is finalizing the design drawings. Stream Restoration Specialists performed the required tree clearing work in late March 2024. This was done in effort to keep the project on schedule as there are permit restrictions on tree clearing April 1 – September 30 due to potential impacts with endangered species (i.e. Indiana bat). The clearing is necessary to facilitate re-establishment of the approximately 40-foot-wide stream channel and surrounding floodplain bench and addition of proposed wetland areas. Nearly all of the removed trees will be utilized in the project for toe-wood and log structures. Construction activities are expected to begin in July 2024. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2024.
